Wooden Custom Made, Fantail Launch, 23', 2004
This beautiful, hand built launch is constructed of cedar and white oak
framing, with Brazilian mahogany decks and planking. (length 23', beam 7') It
was designed, built over the course of five years by master craftsman Ron
Armstrong of Sombra, Ontario, then launched on the St. Clair River in 2004.
"Turtle" features a hard chine, fantail displacement hull and weighs
approximately 2000 pounds. She is powered by a 22 h.p. Palmer Marine engine,
fully rebuilt in 2004.
"Turtle" received notice in the summer edition of Classic Boat magazine. (Copy
included in the sale). She won the People's Choice Award at the 2005 Gravenhurst
Boat Show. The launch is enhanced by intricate carvings and gold inlay
throughout and is registered by Transport Canada. "Turtle" comes with a fully
restored set of 1914 Chestnut Canoe Company oars. The custom built, Mel Trail
trailer is also included in the sale.
Gliding over the water, this fantail displacement hull reflects the slow moving
dignity of it's living namesake. Unfortunately, with the recent passing of Ron,
this one of a kind classic is up for sale. Must be seen to be appreciated but I
can email additional pictures.
