Jeff Hughes and his brother Rich are building another boat -- this time a 18ft, 225 class, Step hull Hydroplane, The Zipper.

These brothers have been building boats since High School and they range from Sea Fleas to Gentleman's racers to rebuilding Shepherds and Chris Crafts.

They do excellent work, here is a picture of a boat Rich just completed that has in terrible shape. He has since put in new stringers, floor, and replaced framing , hull restored and a few mechanical touches. And the upholstery is done by Rich's wife Linda. Call Linda if you need upholstery work at 905-263-9969

Construction on the Zipper has started.

Frame numbers 1 through 12 have been machined out of 1/2 Baltic Birch. Each frame is continuous with no joints. Frames 4,5,6, and 7 are shown in the pictures below. Each frame is machined with a 1/4 round to remove all sharp edges and allow for more glue surface. The frames have been notch for the stringers. Next step is to machine the stringers and begin assembly. Batten and lightning hole will be cut into the frames once the assembly begins.
