Spring Floods in Muskoka:

A combination of 50 millimetres of rain in 24 hours last week, plus a mammoth snow melt brought on by high temperatures, pushed many of Muskoka’s rivers over their banks.  Huntsville has declared a state of emergency, with part of the down-town area flooded and some residents not able to access their homes. Power has been cut in some jurisdictions. A huge sink hole appeared on a major highway in Muskoka, bottling traffic.  Huntsville town docks are flooded, several streets impassable,  and four inches of water (and rising) have inundated the main floor of Dukes Boat Shop in Port Carling.  Worst of all, the Beer Store is now inaccessible!  (See photos below).  This too shall pass. A possible upside? If water levels remain higher this spring and summer, there’s less chance of grinding your wooden boat prop on submerged rocks!  However, watch out for floating detritus…propane tanks, hot tubs, picnic tables and the like!
