Restoring an 18 ft, 1963 Thompson runabout.

May 4, 2016 in Uncategorized

This boat was purchased at a “fire sale” price two + years ago. Restoration to date has included thirteen new ribs, three new planks, a new keel and an upgraded outdrive. Recent work involved stripping the deck of paint, varnish and stain, then sanding, sanding and sanding some more. New stain and varnish has been incorporated.
‘Do-it-yourselfers’ might enjoy comparing notes.
One lesson learned the hard way: it takes two, not one, layers of painter’s tape to protect finished areas from those undergoing attacks from strippers, scrapers and sandpaper!
