ACBS Toronto Spring Boat Shop Tour, 2019. Part I

May 7, 2019 in Uncategorized

Last week we we began our Spring Tour with a visit to Peter Breen’s boat shop in southern Ontario. We continue the tour today with a stop at James Osler’s shop near Port Carling Ontario, then on to Duke Boats, Curtis Hillman’s facilit and Stan Hunter’s shop in Milford Bay. Despite extreme flooding, on the Muskoka Lakes, the “show went on!”

This Chris-Craft Riviera has had some major work undertaken

It was really wonderful to catch a glimpse of this one-hundred-plus year old steam launch, currently operated from Lake Rosseau. What a beautiful piece of living marine history! James reports that the owner regularly uses the boat and takes it “all over the place!” The steamer is in for some new caulking and other refurbishments.  (Photos below)

I wonder if engineering papers are required to operate this steamboat!

Historic beauty and grace.

This SeaBird has had major woodwork and engine work undertaken. It is currently on the market. The owner will consider reasonable offers.

As you can see, flooding in Muskoka this spring has been extreme. Luckily, Duke’s workshop is on the upper level!

This SeaBird is certainly one of the company’s more “upscale” models.

The Greavette Streamliner seen here has had “major surgery, including a new bottom.

The Greavette has been re-powered with a beefier, new and (dare we say it?) reliable power plant!

Curtis Hillman’s recent projects include several smaller watercraft, soon to shine again under his care and skill. Photos below.

Stay tuned for more photos and videos of the 2019 ACBS Toronto Chapter Spring Tour!
