This coming Saturday, April 28th, the Toronto Chapter, ACBS, will host the annual Spring Tour of wooden boat shops in southern Ontario and Muskoka. This is a much anticipated event, as thoughts of warm summer weather and rumbling marine engines inspire woody enthusiasts.
One of the many boats on display in Peter Breen’s workshop will be this stunning racer from a bygone era.
This 1926 race boat is a John Hacker design built, 16.6 ft Pelican boat. Built for the 151 series races held in the late 1920s, it features a stepped hull. The Hacker offers the original Universal 8 cylinder engine, a brass external rudder assembly and a brass oil tank!
This racer has had a new bottom installed for safety reasons. However, very little wood has been replaced above the water line over its racing life time – a fact which makes it very rare.
Stay tuned for videos and photos of the numerous boat shop projects on the tour.
