Waterford Disappearing Propeller Boat reproduction: 16.5 ft. 1980s

This replica Waterford “Dispro” was a project undertaken by Hugh Thompson of Orillia, Ontario, who passed away before the boat could be completed. The current second owner is downsizing his boat collection, and is looking for a new home and an enthusiast to complete the project.. The lines for the Waterford were taken from a deteriorated 1913-1914 model.  The planking is cypress.  Included in the sale is the dispro mechanism and materials to complete the boat, including rudder, ribbing supplies, etc. This  Dippy will make a wonderful winter project.  Add an engine of your choice  (even electric!) and go!.

Dippy lovers take note: an “Uncle Sam” model is available.

It has been said that the owners of Disappearing Propeller Boats have more fun than any other boating group. These folks, usually members of the Dispro Owners Association, have even braved the volatile waters of Georgian Bay on several of their “misery tours”.
Dispros were a staple of the waters of Ontario and beyond for many decades. The fact that many are still operational speaks well of their durability and charm.
Our website currently offers an Uncle Sam model Dispro, with a rebuilt hull, engine and propeller device. Please see the information below…

This boat may be of special interest to our American friends as the Dispro is located in Tennessee, (although at this price, it would be worth the drive south from Canada!)

This charming dispro was restored in 2011. It has been carefully maintained, is complete and runs well, with an engine “in perfect running condition”. There is a spare St. Lawrence, (similar to the St. Lawrence
engine in the boat) available for $500. The sale includes a single axle trailer, canvas cover, spoon blade oars, electronic ignition, fitted cushions and a glass aquascope (to examine the disappearing propeller mechanism).
