July 6, 2016: our newest listing – an exceptional Peterborough Royal; 16 ft, 1958.

July 6, 2016 in Uncategorized

Peterborough Royal: 16 ft, 1958
Notes from the owner below:
This exceptional cedar-strip runabout features mahogany gunnels, bow and stern, and is completely completely refinished. It has a convertible top that slides forward to let in the sun or snaps in place to provide cover. All original chrome and floor boards.
Professionally painted boat license on both bow sides (28E 1985) and
painted “Peterborough Royal” on both stern sides (taken from the original
template prior to refinishing). Upholstery, canvas roof top and
fitted canvas cover for the boat have been redone by “Niagara Marine Upholstery” and are like new. (Approximately 2004-2006
Original Johnson steering cables and controls.
Electric start and powered by a 1961 Johnson 40 hp outboard motor.
The boat has been stored indoors in a climate controlled environment
and includes a TeeNee trailer
The trailer is in very good condition, and has always been used to haul the boat. The motor ran beautifully the last time that I had it in the water. I did fog it after use each year before the winter, and it has always been stored in the garage (which never goes below freezing). Saying that, the marine battery may need replacing & one of the gas lines from the tank to the motor needs replacing.
Murray Boat works (Niagara-on-the-Lake) did the restoration…all upholstery was redone by Niagara Marine Upholstery. There is no fiber glass on the craft. The boat is 16 feet in length and the beam is 68 inches (bull nose at the front) – the chrome strips along the full length of the boat were replaced after restoration…other than that, all chrome is original
The photo on the water is at Six Mile Lake and was taken a few years ago. (Garage photos were taken July, 2016). The owner would be happy to provide more details.
Price: $10,250 More photos below.

Our newest listing: A Peterborough Falcon cedar-strip: 16 ft, 1948

Peterborugh Falcon

Peterborugh Falcon

Notes from the owner:
“This 1948 Peterborough Falcon 185, double wide canoe is an exact copy of the 1947 Peterborough Falcon 185, double wide canoe, with one modification…. A 3” slab of mahogany on the back end, to accommodate the heavy weight of the prototype first ever built outboard engines that were being designed in 1948…

This is Canada’s first powered boat. It cost 75 dollars Canadian (plus the engine), most commonly used for traveling the St.Lawrence river from home to market, made of soft cedar, they most commonly ended up at the bottom of the river from saturation.
GC-QX3 Image
The outer shell was covered in fiberglass in 1995 to protect the wood from damage and avoid saturation…

This one made its way out west 45 years ago, and was stored indoors for most of its life. Other than a couple of fishing expeditions per year in Sylvan Lake, Alberta (between 1995 and 2005) this boat has been indoors protected from the elements….
GC-QX3 Image
The history of the Peterborough canoe company can be viewed here at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peterborough_Canoe_Company and it is believed that this is the very same boat make and model of canoe that was given to Queen Elizabeth, by the Peterborough Canoe Company, in 1948, when she was still a princess.
The sale of the Falcon also includes a single axle, 1990 trailer in great shape.
GC-QX3 Image
I am interested in selling this boat, I am willing to restore it, or sell it as is, depending on your preference…
